The purpose of the KBC is to educate and provide resources to people who want to keep bees, support those who already keep bees, and to provide bee-related services to the community.
Ali Leist began to play with honeybees in 2013 after her colleagues wrote a grant to start an apiary at Western Michigan University’s Colony Farm Orchard. Soon after she became the co-director of WMU’s Apiary Research Installment and facilitated a partnership with the Kalamazoo Bee Club (KBC). Over the past 4 years she has served on the board of the KBC where the art and science of beekeeping has become a favorite hobby. Ali loves learning with others in the field and sharing her passions with anyone willing to listen.
